I just bought a 1TB Seagate Backup Plus, formatted it to Mac Journeled and am only getting transfer speeds at a maximun of 40MBPS.
This Mac is a late 2013 model with USB 3.0

Deleting some files on back-up to gain extra backup space
Please help with information. I bought a Desktop Backup Plus (3 TB) for photos and videos only. However all 3 TB are used. Can I safely remove some files (such as .nbi) or log files. I don't have that amount of TB of photos and videos.

Very first back up doesn't work
A first time ext.drive backup user. First (and repeated) attempts using backup process under "Backups and Restore" failed "while trying to read from the shadow copy" - whatever that means! I have no idea what to do. Much material appears to be backed up but I can't tell how much. I have a 1T Backup Plus Portable Drive and use Windows 7 Ulitmate on a Del Inpiron 530 desktop. Thanks.

Beeping and Flashing Light
I have had a backup plus portable drive for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly every day until recently I plugged it in to my mac and it started beeping then a light started flashing. The computer would not read the drive either. I took suggestions on the seagate website and customer service, but nothing helped.
I am running MAC OSX 10.9.1. I have a windows computer that I will attempt to use later to see if it makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Backup Plus USM models being discontinued
Having just "invested" in a couple Thunderbolt adapters and a FW800 adapter I am a bit fed up to find that the USM drives with the detachable connection are now discontinued. I first saw this on the Maplins website, and so I phoned Seagate UK who confirmed it.
There are quite a few still available but obviously no future prospects for larger than 1Tb.
Would be very pleased to be contradicted or told there is a new version which is still interchangeable.

Seagate Expansion 4TB freezes in the middle of a transfer
I have a 4TB expansion hard drive. It has only 3 months. It has been working fine until now. I was watching a movie (with it pluged to the LCD by USB) and it just froze in the middle of the movie. It has been doing that ever since, in other movies that used to work fine before. 15 or 20 minutes after the start of a movie, it just freezes. Also, if I try to copy something from the disc to my computer, like a simple 2GB movie file, the transfer also freezes in the middle. It starts fine, but it always freezes.
Please let me know what might be wrong with it.

Backup Plus external model # stca2000100
I'm preparing to install my new external 2tb external drive on a Dell laptop with Windows 8.1, but before I do I have one question.
This is probably the dumb question of the new year, but why doesn't this drive have an on/off switch? Is it intended to run continuously? Wouldn't this cause unnecessary wear on the drive and consume needless energy? If I do disconnect the power supply, are there any problems this may cause? I can't find anything, anywhere that answers this question.
I'm not all that new to computing, but all my other external drives do have on/off switches on them.

New to seagate
I have recently brought a Seagate 1TB Backup Plus, model SRDOOF1. So far, so good. Free space 638GB
I am running HP Pavilion dv7 64bit.
I have 4 hard disc drives Local disc (C: ) 575 GB free of 683GB , Recovery(D: ) 1.86GB free of 14.9GB, HP_TOOLS (F: ) 88.7MB free of 98.8MB and Microsoft Office Click-to-run 2010 (Protected) (Q: ) this one I cannot open???
My concern is that Recovery (D: ) looks to be nealy full. Can/should I drag and drop this to Seagate? I undertand that if I 'remove' this drive, things could perhaps go wrong. I'm not savvy enough to try anything without advice.
Any help would be apperciated.

seagate slim for mac not recognized
I've just bought the 'seagate slim for mac - 500GB' HD. When I plug it into my MacBook Air I get an error message telling me that the computer is unable to recognize the disk. I have no clue what to do next. Maybe I need to download some new drivers? Maybe there's an error in the HD?
I hpoe someone in here is able to help me out!

Backing Up Seagate Backup Plus 4TB
Hi
I have recently purchased this product to back up my desktop hard drive. My computer is only 500GB and I have used 360GB. So I connected the Seagate and did my first backup. I have set my backup as continuous. I connect the seagate to my computer about once a week for this back up to happen. I have just noticed that my Seagate says I have used 2TB! but I only have a computer hard drive of 500GB!
So I am assuming that each time it backs up it is backing up my WHOLE hard drive and not just the files that have changed since my last backup?? How do I get around this. All I want is to have my hard drive backed up and then as a file changes or a new data file has been created then it gets backed upas well.
Thank you to anyone who can help as I am very confused and new to all this.

Seagate Expansion 500GB Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
Recently added a Seagate Expansion Portable External Hard Drive to use for backing up my files
It installed and I was able to back up my quickbook files to it.
When I rebooted my computer i am getting an error message in the top left hand corner of my monitor "missing operating system" What do I do now? I unplugged the hard drive from the usb port and rebooted again and I am still getting the message. Help please!!

I wanted 512 sector not 4096... discwizar broke the drive... need 512 sector size
Hey All (Seagate Desktop Extension drive USB 3 4TB)
hopefully my reformat on another computer will allow this to be used again.. discwizard allowed me to forward then the drive was no longer usable. Same again on 2nd laptop. Tried 3rd now reformatted to ntfs with discwizard but reformatting under windows.
server 2008 r2 does not support 4k sectors. it will support 512b logical sector size.
Can I take m y 4tb drive and somehow change the logical sectors to 512 ? Windows will not let me do this as the minimum is 4096. I can make it exFat but when I query it .. it still says 4096..
Is there any way as my backups fail on VSS because of the 4096 sector size.
ALSO - Any way to correct the horrible mess that discwizard has done... I am hoping the drive is usable. I need to backup 900GB tonight on a system that then schedules one full backup every week ... so need the 4TB to do this.

Backup Plus 4TB connection question
Does anyone know if it is possible to connect this backup device to my linksys router via the USB port? I did try it - I know the cable is good - I see the device on the network, but I cannot get the software to detect it. Please help, and thank you in advance for your answers/help!

How to clean up drive
I want to get rid of the ridiculous backup software (Backup Plus) that came with my drive. I hate it. How do I go about this? Can I just delete all the folders in the drive and then just use it as a blank external hard drive (with a better backup software)?

Just bought macbook pro, can i use my external Seagate Desktop 3TB with it.
The Apple rep said i needed to make sure my Seagate Model SRD0SD1 3TB is compatible. I think he said not to reformate it or not to just plug it in because it may reformate and i will lose everything.I use it to store my itunes on my Dell.

Is there a manual with instructions how to recover my files from the Seagate. I used it to back up all my documents, pictures, etc. It says it was successful, I then found how to recover the files, and it added an icon to my desktop, but when I click on it i can't figure out how to extract the files.

Seagte Backup Plus 4TB disconnects when data being written (Windows 7 64Bit)
I have a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB, running Windows 7 64bit, with a Gigabyte H77N motherboard. I connect my Backup Plus to a USB3.0 port.
When I try to copy a 150GB file from my internal harddisk to the Backup Plus, the speed is about 88mb/s. But after a while, maybe 5 to 10mins, the drive will disconnect and reconnect, and I will get an error message that copying has failed.
The drive is only 1 month old. Should I RMA it, or is there a driver upgrade for the backup plus? My motherboard drivers and USB3.0 are updated.

MacOS Maverick MacBook Pro Retina late 2013 wont boot after using 3TB Backup Plus
Hi. Please help!
I have been able to reproduce this error several times.
Issue: MacBook hangs when starting laptop at Apple logo with spinning circle. Laptop can wake from sleep without problem, the issue is when laptop have been turned off
Performed investigation: 3 times in contact with Apple care, 2 times my laptop have been at Apple repair center, they have replaced the logic board and the SSD. Didnt solve the issue when it is reproduced.
Work around to start laptop: Reinstall OS, either new or on top of existing
How to reproduce:
- New clean MacBook Pro Maverick, 15" Retina late 2013, Haswell. Seagate USB 3.0 3TB Backup Plus model: SRD0SD0, PN: 1DXAD7-500 3TB
- Install iPhoto (this is the scenario I have tried 4 times)
- Connect Seagate USB 3TB which contain the iPhoto library
- Launch iPhoto with the library on the external Seagate drive, use iPhoto, everything works as it should
- Turn off MacBook
- Try to start MacBook, will not happen! it is stopping at the Apple logo
My conclusion is that you cant use this drive with MacBook Pro late 2013.
I have tested same scenario on my iMac 24" mid 2007, it works fine on my iMac.
I have tried to find new firmware for the Seagate drive (seagate-firmware-updater-1.2.2) the firmware tool stated that no supported drives was connected.
Anyone else had this issue?
Anyone have suggestion or solutions?
